happy 1st birthday Dylan Scott!!

Today, Nov. 29th, is big Dylan's 1st birthday!  We love you Dylan!

doctor day

Since Dylan's birthday is quickly approaching, Randi was planning on taking him to the doctor for his 1 year check up.  But instead of one, she got to take both kids.  Kaitlyn has been telling us her ear hurts all the time.  So Randi took her and Dylan today to have both of them looked at.

Good news though!  Neither kid is sick or has ear infections.  Thanks goodness!  Dylan still sounds weezy.  Which I am like "uh, yea...".  haha..

But Dylan did really good.  He even walked from Randi to the doctor and then hopped up and sat in his lap.  He is definitely not going to be a shy one.  Then as they were leaving, Randi put Dylan down to write the check and Dylan took off crawling behind the reception desk and right over to the doctor.  So I guess Dylan has a friend.

So now for the check up news.  Today Mr. Dylan weighs 23lbs and is 29 inches long.  So he is growing good.

have fun and help at the same time

What is better than doing something that is kind of fun, yet at the same time, helping people all over the world?  I will tell you, it is www.freerice.com.

My econ professor told us about this site today in class, and he is right, it is rather addictive.  The premise of the site is that you play a basic vocabulary game.  For each correct answer, you win 10 grains of rice that are donated to a group within the United Nations to help end world hunger.  True, 10 grains isn't much, but when you figure that people all over the world are playing it, and that it is rather addictive, it adds up quickly.  On their site they show the total grains that will be donated and currently the number is 2,628,006,040!!

So help out others and have a little fun.  The address again is www.freerice.com.

And then to top the day off, the little man took his first BIG STEP!! He had a hold of Randi's foot, let go and took a step over and grabbed on to the ottoman. He is da man!! What a day!

picture day

As Christmas time approaches, you know it is time for the family Christmas photo.  It is kind of funny, because I don't remember doing that much at all growing up, but now I feel like every year we have to make sure to get the family portrait taken care of.  But I guess when you have two cheesy kids like we have then it is kind of fun.

Kaitlyn has managed to befriend the  lady at WalMart that takes the photos.  She has had the same lady for the last 2 or 3 times she went it.  But that lady just loves Kaitlyn.  And Dylan, man, that kid can smile!  It is so cute!  So we will have those in a few weeks to send out to everyone.

But until then, her are a couple shots that I took this morning while getting them ready.  Unfortunately, Dylan only likes to smile for the big camera I guess. haha..

the big haircut

Well the day finally came. Dylan's hair finally got too long. So today he got his first haircut. Randi is going through a mother's withdraw of her son's long hair, but I think it looks really good on him.

She said that the lady that did it started with the sides and for a brief moment he had a mullet! Thank goodness she kept going so we didn't have that! haha..

Here are some before and after photos for your enjoyment.

crazy morning

This post is a bit delayed but I thought better late than never.

I think this was around Oct. 26th. It was the night I woke up with my terrible stomach pain that kept me down all day and led to me getting my gallbladder removed.

Well, on the 26th of October, it was about 4:45 or 5am, somewhere in that time frame. I was sitting in our kitchen drinking my third glass of water after taking about 4 Tums. All of a sudden I heard this terrible screeching, crashing, banging sound. It only lasted about a second or two it seemed and then was over. My initial thought was "a plane crashed!", since that is how people describe the sound.

So I walked around the house peeking out the windows, but I didn't see anything, so I started thinking that maybe I just was hearing things. Well, about 10 minutes later I started hearing sirens. So that is when I thought, "something happened I guess".

Well the morning went on and Randi and the kids got around and left. About 8:30 I decided to see if I could even drive around the block or if the pain was going to be too much. I headed down to main street and there it was. Tons of highway patrol cars, police cars and fire trucks. Sure enough, something did happen. What that something was, was a big rig that didn't make the sharp turn on the Roff main street, hit a concrete barrier, flipped on its side and slide through a guys garage!! Here is a picture of it after they had it sitting back up. When I drove by it was still on its side though.

It was, and still is a big mess. They went ahead and finished tearing down the garage. Just in case people are like me and want to read the story, you can read it here.

i think i am finally done

Well, I accomplished what I never thought I could do.  I survived a root canal.  Yes, me.  The man that hasn't been to the dentist in SO MANY YEARS!  But just three days after having my gallbladder removed, I headed to the dentist this morning.  Sat back in the chair, sucked in that gas and held on.

Ok, so it wasn't that bad. haha..  The only pain I have had to this point was just when he gave me the shot in the top of my mouth.  Now that one made me tear up! haha..  But once everything was numb and the gas kicked in a bit, I didn't feel anything but the pulling and pushing on my head.  Now when I had to write the check after I experienced some slight pain in my wallet! lol...

As for my gallbladder surgery.  Well, I am still feeling better each day.  Today I had some pain in my ab area.  I think from picking Dylan up a few times the night before.  I just know when I went to get up this morning, it hurt until I sort of stretched a little bit.  But I am just ready to get the staples out.  At home I try not to put any bandaids on them, but then I keep hitting them with my arm or they hit the side of the couch while I'm doing homework and that sort of hurts.

another day down

Well, I made it another day.  The pain level was way way way higher today, especially after Randi and the kids got home.  I have this crazy thing where I like to help all the time so I did some stuff with them that I probably shouldn't have.  I am really feeling it now!

But it was nice to wake up this morning and not have the whole cloudy headed thing from yesterday.  The pain meds make me a little dizzy, but at least I can remember things.  It is kind of funny, but there are bits and pieces from yesterday that I don't remember.  Things like calling my dad twice, the car ride home from the hospital, picking up my meds on the way home, just things like that.

Anyway, I am still doing better.  Just wanted to let you all know that.

it comes and goes

Well, the big surgery day has no been completed. I am a little sore because I have to get up and pee like every five seconds it seems. I guess that is what happens when you go without water all day and then drink a whole bunch when you get home.

I wanted to say thank you to my mom and sister and also Randi's folks for coming and seeing me at the hospital. That really meant a lot to me. I know that it was just a small surgery, but for me, it was a gigantic ordeal!

There isn't a whole lotta pain right now, just some tenderness and I can still feel the air that they pumped in my stomach. The air they pumped in made my stomach like a tent so they could do the laparoscopic surgery. I was suppposed to end up with 3-4 small holses, but I just counted and there are 5 for me. This is probably due in part to the fact that they found a rather large (size of the end of your pinky)stone in the bile duct. So had I told him to hold off on the surgery, I could have ended up in msome major major pain very soon!!I think though, the worst part I experienced in the hospital the whole time was when the RN blew out 2 of my veins when trying to get my IV started. But the third time was the charm I guess. But I have some swelling and bruising on my right wrist where she tried to start the IV.

So other than that and being extremely tire. So I am going to get to sleep so i be somewhat functional. I guess now it is on to the root canal! Woo hoo!!

Thursday, November 8

the big day is almost here

Well, tomorrow is the big day.  I have to report to the hospital at noon.  So not as early as I would like to do it, but as long as I can get this done, then I will be happy.  Then once I get through next Tuesday I will be on easy street! haha...

Anyway, I am just trying to calm myself down so I can try to get me some sleep tonight.  I will see you all on the other side!!

going-ons

Well, it has been pretty crazy around here lately.  But most recently, I have started having some pain in my stomach.  Well, though the main cause was probably the antibiotics I was on, it led to the doctor finding that the walls of my gallbladder are thickening.

I met with the surgeon this afternoon to get the results of the gallbladder scan and ultrasound they did last week.  Well, it was somewhat up to me, but he said that he could tell by the results of the ultrasound that it has been progressing for some time now.  So as it gets thicker, I will start experiencing more and more issues.  So, I decided to just have the dang thing taken out.

So this Friday I am going into Valley View Regional Hospital to have my "little" surgery - so everyone is calling it.  I know it isn't a big surgery, but if you watch tv any, you may have seen the preview for the new movie Awake.  Well, it is about anesthesia awareness.  Needless to say, I am very paranoid about that! haha..

So that is Friday, then Saturday and Sunday I am not to do anything.  Then I have to go to class Monday and then Tuesday I go for my root canal at 8:30 in the morning!  So I am just getting it all done.

Just got a neat photo of Dylan learning how to ride.

halloween fun

I hope that everyone had a great Halloween night.  We actually got to have two fun nights.

In the papers down here, they said that Roff was doing the Treak or Treating on Tuesday night along with Ada.  Well, Kaitlyn got all dressed up and ready to go, but the town was dead.  Randi even drove her around, but nobody was giving out candy.  So Wednesday night, after we got her over her fear of "monsters", Randi got to take her around to some of our neighbors.  She had a really good time.  Here are a couple pictures of our little angle.
